Chief Compliance & Risk Officer at AlbaCo

Take a look at the role…

Welcome to the first candidate brief for AlbaCo, the proposed new bank specifically for SME customers.

Our journey so far has been short, the process of establishing the new bank beginning only in April 2018, but we are looking to build a long history.

The Chief Compliance and Risk Officer will be the first new member to join our small team and this represents a great opportunity for the right candidate to work with us to shape the future of the bank.

Our shareholder investors are successful Scottish business people who recognised a gap in the SME market to better serve those companies and to help them to scale up to success as they grow and move their businesses forward.

We are looking to leverage new advances in IT to be more modern and approachable with a 21st century culture which nods to longstanding Scottish banking traditions but is not bound by the challenges of the past.

With our small and dedicated team of investors, colleagues and non-executive directors we are working together to achieve our vision and launch the new bank at the beginning of 2020.

Please consider engaging with us. If this is the role for you, we look forward to you joining us on our journey.

Rod Ashley, Chief Executive Officer

AlbaCo Ltd are a Scottish based start-up established to create a new bank focused on providing savings and lending products to SMEs, principally in Scotland, but also the wider UK regions. AlbaCo aims to help these UK based businesses achieve their potential, in turn helping to grow our economy.

In the UK, over 99% of businesses are Small or Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) – employing 0-249 people. The contribution SMEs make to the UK economy means that it is hugely important that they are provided with the finance they need to grow.

The bank will initially operate out of one Glasgow based head office, with the potential of expanding to have further U.K. regional offices. Their savings accounts will follow a self-serve model, being opened and managed almost exclusively online. Lending customers will be referred to AlbaCo from their own in-house commercial team, specialist brokers, professional partners, and via their founding shareholders.

The Bank will be innovative in its approach around technology. Using the cloud and SAAS to delivery flexibility and efficiency when working with customers and colleagues.

The newly created Chief Compliance and Risk Officer role will report into the CEO with a dotted line to the Chair of the Audit Committee and Chair of the Risk & Compliance Committee. The key purpose of the CCRO is to ensure that the Governance, Risk, Compliance and Control frameworks of the bank are designed, embedded and operating effectively. They will ensure that these frameworks are operated, maintained and updated as approved by the Board.

We are seeking someone with strong experience in management and/or leadership of a Risk function and significant financial services experience, alongside the willingness to help shape and develop a start-up organisation.

Interested candidates should contact Kirsty Sim, Head of Research for more information at [email protected] or call 0131 220 2209.
