DFID has more than 2,800 employees, based in multiple offices across the globe. We operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments and lead the UK’s efforts to eradicate extreme poverty and fight the root causes of international issues such as migration, terrorism, disease and corruption.

In DFID’s award-winning Procurement and Commercial team, our role is to deliver the best value for UK taxpayers, and the best outcomes for some of the world’s most disadvantaged people.

You will be working in a fast paced environment and in a supportive, innovative team. Working from our base in East Kilbride, Glasgow, you’ll find yourself working on a wide variety of interesting projects. We deliver Procurement and Commercial excellence for the UK Government and UK taxpayers, and are always striving to remain at the forefront of our profession. We have the responsibility for leading and driving commercial capability across the organisation.

A recent Cabinet Office and HM Treasury commercial capability review considered commercial capability across DFID in terms of its commercial maturity, strategic direction, as well as a number of other key commercial factors and has seen us develop a long-term strategic plan that will enable our CIPS award winning team to continue to excel.

Our vision for the future involves:

  • DFID delivery being supported by a first-class procurement and commercial service, working as one team to deliver innovative solutions with our delivery partners.
  • DFID taking responsibility for maximising market responses and influencing both international and local markets alike
  • Collective forward planning allowing commercial practice to become strategically planned, increasing our influence in the development sector.

DFID is looking for experienced commercial professionals with excellent judgement and a proven track record of working in a commercial environment. As a Commercial Specialist you will be expected to advise senior officials, build effective relationships across government, NGOs and the private sector.  An average day could involve supporting programmes on Syrian refugees or responding to a humanitarian crisis such as an earthquake in Nepal.

Joining DFID will give you a range of opportunities to develop your career in one of the government’s highest performing and most innovative commercial offices, as part of a committed and supportive team.

Employee engagement is high and our people are proud to work at DFID.  By joining us, you too can feel a sense of purpose and achievement, knowing your efforts will make a difference to some of the poorest people in the world.
