TAKE A LOOK AT THE ROLE…

Thank you for your interest in the opportunity to join the Scottish FA as Chief Governance Officer.

The Scottish FA is the governing body for the national game in Scotland. Founded in 1873, it is a members’ organisation, existing to foster and develop the game at all levels in Scotland as well as inspiring the next generation.

The association is set to launch its new five-year strategic plan this year, which will clearly outline the ambition, values and goals that underpin the organisation and its many facets. As Chief Governance Officer, you will be responsible for the successful implementation of a number of the goals which will be outlined within the strategy.

In recent years, we have been at the leading edge of a number of key areas in world football, launching our equality strategy ‘Football Unites’ and establishing the world’s first Para Football Affiliated National Association. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, football in Scotland was impacted greatly but registered players at a grassroots levels continued to increase by 20,000, to 150,000 players. COVID-19 demonstrated the strength and importance football has on millions of people across Scotland and now the organisation is entering into a period of great opportunity, following the men’s national team’s qualification for EURO 2020 and the purchase of Hampden Park.

Through the Scottish FA’s key values: “We Focus on the goal”, “We Share and Connect”, “We Respect Each Other” and “We Lead with Purpose”, the association is determined to continue to govern the game with transparency and integrity, consistently qualify for major tournaments and inspire the nation through lifelong participation.

The Chief Governance Officer role offers the chance to ensure our processes and systems remain robust and reviewed in line with the highest standards of modern governance to positively impact Scotland’s national sport for years to come.

The Scottish Football Association (Scottish FA) is the governing body of football in Scotland. Founded in 1873 the Scottish FA is the second oldest national football association in the world. The founding principles are as relevant today as they were in 1873.

The objectives of the Association are to promote, foster and develop football for all in Scotland.  A new strategic plan will be launched shortly which will reinforce these aims and ensure that through the power of football we continue to inspire the nation.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Governance Officer will lead, direct and control the legal, football governance and regulatory operations of the Scottish FA.

As a member of the Senior Management Team and Operational Board, the Chief Governance Officer will directly contribute to the strategic direction of the Scottish FA and also oversee the implementation the Scottish FA’s strategic aim of fostering a culture of inclusivity, safety and wellbeing across all areas of the organisation and throughout the membership.
